Best Plant Based Protein Powders for Weight Loss

by Mr Plant Based

Choosing a plant-based powder for weight loss.

A lot of people switch over to a vegan diet because they want to be responsible global citizens. Eating a plant based diet is the most effective way to fight climate change on an individual level.

However, most folks go vegan because they want to take control of their health.

Plant-based diets, if carefully balanced, are rich in vitamins and minerals, low in fats, and high in fiber.  You can get all the vital nutrition you need without consuming animal products.

Plant based eating is proven to lower your risk of high blood pressure and heart disease, diabetes, digestive diseases, and certain kinds of cancer.

All of those illnesses are closely related to obesity.

Maintaining a healthy weight is the first step in achieving overall health.

Consuming a plant based diet is highly recommended if your health goals include weight loss.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get enough of one particular nutrient that is the key to achieving your weight loss goal: protein.

Protein is an important factor in maintaining a healthy metabolism, feeling full for longer periods, and in preventing muscle loss while you slim down.

Plant based protein powders can be a great tool for helping you achieve your weight loss goals.

The best vegan protein powders will help you get the boost of added protein you need while minimizing the calories you need to consume. It will help you feel full longer, will provide you with important vitamins and minerals, and help you to consume fewer calories overall.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of “weight loss” products on the market – supposed miracles in a bottle that will melt off your extra pounds with no extra effort.

Don’t fall for the gimmicks. So many protein powders for weight loss are nothing more than over-processed junk.

Fillers, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, and loads of salt are common ingredients in products that are supposed to help you get healthy.

The best plant based protein powders for weight loss should:

  • Be made with all natural, whole food ingredients.
  • Have minimal fillers or texture enhancers.
  • Provide at least 20g of protein per serving.
  • Provide a complete amino acid profile.
  • Provide a decent dose of diverse vitamins and minerals.
  • Ideally, be certified organic and GMO-free.
  • Taste good!

Taking all of these points into consideration, I’ve put together the following list of my recommendations for the best plant based protein powders for weight loss.

These products meet my criteria and have great customer reviews.

Best Plant-Based Protein Powders for Weight Loss

Organic Vegan Protein Powder

Organic Protein Powder

As the name suggests, it’s to help you get lean and it’s also clean. It’s low in calories yet packed with a decent portion of protein (22g per serving). Not to mention it’s loaded with 20 organic superfoods to deliver a complete amino acid profile

What more could you want? I’ve personally been using this protein for the last month and love it in my post-workout smoothies.

It tastes beaut. Very clean tasting without that nasty artificial taste some protein powders have.

Here’s some good things to know about this proten powder:

  • It is low sodium – only 11% daily value.
  • It contains a full spectrum of digestive enzymes to support digestion and bioavailability of nutrients for absorption.
  • It has two servings of organic greens in every shake
  • It has no filler ingredients, artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, or preservatives.
  • It is made with organic pea, rice, and hemp protein.
  • It provides a complete amino acid profile.

As you can see this is a great plant based protein powder for weight loss which is created with health in mind.

Not only do I think this a fantastic vegan protein powder, here’s what other customers like about Ora Organic plant based protein powder:

  • It tastes good and is helping me lose the baby weight.
  • It isn’t chalky and tastes great.
  • Healthy and better tasting than the rest.
  • Taste clean without chemical taste.

Perform Plant Based Protein Powder

Vivo life protein is one of my personal favorites. I’ve used this brand for over a year now and I love it. You can read my full review here.

When it comes to weight loss this is a great option as it only has 132kcal and contains a whopping 25g of protein per serving.

Here’s what you should know about Vivo Lifes’ plant-based protein powder for weight loss:

  • Low in calories.
  • Added turmeric extract to optimize recovery
  • Fermented protein for optimal digestion.
  • Low in sugar with just 0.23g per serving.
  • Plant Protein Blend (Fermented Yellow Pea Protein, Cold Pressed Hemp Protein)
  • 100% raw, plant-based ingredients.
  • It provides all the essential amino acids including 6g BCAA per serving.

I love this brand because it not only cares about the quality of its products but also cares about the planet. I know it’s got nothing to do with weight loss but they plant one tree per order and they are also a carbon-neutral company.

Overall they are a great company.

Here’s what other customers like about Vivo Life’s plant based protein powder:

  • This product is so refreshing because it tastes so natural.
  • It tastes like real food because of the purity of its ingredients.
  • It mixes well into oats, smoothies, and baked goods.
  • It has a smooth texture.
  • The company has great customer service.

One of the downsides some people say is it’s one of the more expensive protein powders on the market. But I find the statement “you get what you pay for” to be true in this case as most people are still happy to pay a little premium for good quality protein powder.

Pure Food Plant Based Protein Powder

This vegan protein powder is fairly minimalist. It comes packed with only the essential ingredients needed to give you a 20g boost of protein in your diet with only 120 calories per serving.

This is what caught my eye about Pure Food’s plant based protein powder for weight loss:

  • It is low sodium – only 7% daily value.
  • It has a decent amount of fiber – 14%.
  • It is easy to digest.
  • It has a daily dose of probiotics.
  • It is made with pea, brown rice, and hemp protein.
  • It has raw cacao, not cocoa, in the chocolate flavor! This is huge!
  • It provides all the essential amino acids including 4g of BCAAs per serving.

What I also like about this plant based protein powder is that it is made in the US by a small company.

Here’s what customers like about Pure Food’s plant based protein powder:

  • It’s energizing – thank the whole cacao powder for this!
  • It tastes like real food because of the purity of its ingredients.
  • It keeps you feeling satiated and helps cut back on cravings.

The only thing people seem to complain about with this protein powder is that the texture can be either chalky or gritty. I “chalk” this up to the lack of gums, fillers, and texturizers.

Most other plant based protein powders rely on those to improve the texture of their product.

Sunwarrior Clean Keto

First off, I’ve always liked Sunwarrior products. This particular plant based protein powder is fantastic for those of you that are following a plant based keto diet for weight loss.

Keto has been hugely popular recently because of how effective it can be to quickly shed extra pounds. For those of you who are following a vegan keto diet, it can be tricky to get enough protein.

This particular protein powder doesn’t have the recommended 20g of protein per serving.

It has 14g, so you’ll want to be sure to include other sources of protein in your diet.

However, if your intention is strictly weight loss, this protein powder might just be perfect for you. Here’s why:

  • It has 20g of fat from coconut oil powder.
  • It has 24% of your daily fiber.
  • Has a solid dose of Omegas 3,6, and 9.
  • It has 280 calories per serving, making it a complete meal replacement.

What does all that mean? That you will feel full, longer, and have the energy you need to get through your day.

Here’s what else I love about this protein powder:

  • It has fava protein and pea protein.
  • It has a complete amino acid profile.
  • It’s got a solid dose of iron, calcium, and vitamin C.

And customers love this stuff. Here’s what they have to rave about:

  • It’s not overwhelmingly sweet.
  • It mixes easily and smoothly.
  • It’s effective at curbing your appetite.
  • It’s energizing.

If there is one consistent complaint about this product, it is that it can sit heavy on the stomach for some people.

This may be due to the coconut oil.

I’m more inclined to think it has to do with the Acacia gum and Guar gum that this product contains.

Sprout Living Equivalent Meal – Matcha Flavor

Sprout Living’s Meal Replacement powder is not directly marketed as a protein powder.

It is specifically marketed as a vegan meal replacement. All the same, it earns a spot on my list of the best plant based protein powders for weight loss.

Why?

  • It provides a full 20g of protein per 275 calorie serving.
  • It’s got a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals including Vitamins D, C, E, A, and potassium.
  • The protein comes primarily through a unique blend of grains, pea protein, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds.
  • It has 8g of fat sourced from coconut oil to help keep you satiated.
  • It has a complete amino acid profile.

I particularly appreciate that this meal replacement protein powder has no gums or fillers. The ingredient list is pretty impressive overall.

Customers also think this product is great. Here’s what they’ve had to say:

  • It tastes great blended with just water.
  • It also blends great into smoothies.
  • It is very natural tasting.
  • It works great as a breakfast replacement.

The Sprout Living Equivalent Meal comes in four different flavors. I recommend the Matcha flavor. Matcha is a source of natural catechins – which are great for reducing inflammation and particularly helpful for those of you maintaining an exercise regime.

Garden of Life Raw Organic Fit Powder

The last product on my list of the best plant based protein powders for weight loss is the Garden of Life Raw Organic Fit Powder.

This protein powder contains more protein than most of the options on my list – 28g per serving. At the same time, it is a lower calorie option than other protein powders that double as a complete meal replacement. It has just 160 calories per 43g serving.

Based on pea and brown rice, the protein blend is rounded out by a variety of sprouted seeds and legumes. This helps make it more digestible and energizing.

Here’s what else I like about this product:

  • It contains probiotics and enzymes to support gut health.
  • It has ashwagandha and green coffee bean extract for stress management and increased energy.
  • It has a great vitamin and mineral profile.
  • It’s low in sodium and has no added sugars.
  • It has a complete amino acid profile.
  • It does not have any fillers or artificial ingredients.

Dedicated customers also love this product. This is what they say is great about it:

  • It helps control hunger cravings.
  • It provides a boost of energy.
  • The texture is great.
  • It has the right amount of sweet.
  • There is no aftertaste.
  • It has an amazing creamy texture if left overnight.

The only negative complaint that I would pay any heed to would be that this plant based protein powder can be gritty according to some people.
