  • No animal products
  • Provides nutrients
  • Easier to digest
  • More ethical

  • More expensive
  • Less protein per serving

Now let’s go into more detail.

Vegan Protein Powder Pros

Vegan protein powder is healthier because it is easier for people to digest and contains more nutrients than whey protein.

It’s good to mix up your different plant-based proteins to ensure you’re getting all the proteins you need.

Rice, peas, pumpkin seeds, and hemp are all used to make protein powders.

A majority of vegan protein powder brands are already so focused on your health that they will often exclude things like GMOs, gluten, artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors from their powders.

Vegan alternatives are more organic and free of all sorts of unneeded additives, making them the healthiest option for you.

Tastes Better

Vegan protein powder has a more natural taste to it. Many protein powders will taste sugary and over-sweetened.

There is a rich, organic flavor to the protein powder I drink, and it never makes my stomach feel uneasy.

Since there are several different vegan sources that can be used, you can try out different kinds like pea protein or hemp protein, or even get some that combine multiple different proteins into one.

One vegan protein powder I use is Vivo Life which makes use of pea, hemp, turmeric, and Reishi mushrooms. You can learn more about that here.

No Dairy Products

Milk-based proteins like whey protein tend to cause stomach and digestive problems with people who use them.

Many protein powders contain lactose from milk, vegan protein powders do not.

Another good thing about not having a milk-based protein powder is that you can steer clear of animal products.

Dairy products have been linked to acne issues in some people as well.

No Animal Products

And back to one of the best reasons to switch to vegan protein powder,

…no animal products!

Being able to completely avoid milk or any animal products from your diet is good.

The animal products that make up whey protein powders are often the cause of things like acne, upset stomach, and digestive problems.

I’m not a full vegan myself, but I do what I can to cut down on animal products.

It’s important to be aware of how you contribute to animal waste and abuse.

I rarely eat meat now and I focus on eating a more plant-based diet as I believe it’s better for your health and the environment.

Provides Nutrients

Plant-based protein powders are able to provide your body with more nutrients than whey protein.

Since it’s always best to mix up your plant-based proteins, you can be certain you’re getting all the nutrients you need when you have multiple sources of plant-based protein in your diet and a healthy vegan protein powder to use for working out.

Easier to Digest

Vegan protein powders are easier to digest because they lack the lactose that whey protein has, which is a milk-based product.

Many people struggle to digest lactose, or they get an upset stomach or even gas when they do.

Mixing that in with consuming large amounts of it, like a protein shake, and you’re in for a bad time.

More Ethical

There is a moral responsibility everybody has towards helping the earth.

Using vegan protein powders reduces waste, prevents animal abuse, and helps support companies that care about animals and the environment.

Vegan Protein Powder Cons

More Expensive

It’s no surprise really that vegan protein powders are more expensive.

You can get a discount on my favorite vegan protein here.

Whey protein is produced in mass, and easy to come by, so it’s not rare to find whey protein cheaper than vegan protein powders.

Don’t let that stop you from getting it though. There are all sorts of different plant-based protein powders.

You should be able to shop around and find an alternative that isn’t too far off the price of whey protein that you still like.

With vegan protein powder, you know your money is going towards a good product.

Less Protein Per Serving

One of the few downsides to vegan protein powders is that they have a slightly less amount of protein in them per serving in comparison to whey protein.

You can make up for this by using brands that have multiple different sources of protein in their product.

The difference between vegan protein and whey protein is small.

Most vegan protein powders still have a good portion of protein in them, and plenty enough to help you build up muscle mass.

Sorting Out Your Options

As I’ve been mentioning this whole time, when you’re looking to make plant-based proteins the only type of protein in your diet, it’s best to mix the plants and foods you eat so that you’re getting all the proper nutrients and proteins needed to be healthy.

Vegan protein powders are an all-around better option.

They’re healthier, animal-friendly, give you nutrients you need, and tastes great!

The only real downside to them is that from time to time they can be more expensive than mass-produced proteins like whey protein.

Try your best to avoid plant-based protein powders that make use of heavy metals.

Check the packaging and website details to see if they have been tested for heavy metals.

You want to avoid things like Arsenic, Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium in your protein powders, as well as pesticides.

I use vegan protein powder every day I workout, and it’s helped me a ton. I’m building muscle just as quick as if I was using a whey protein powder.

It’s also nice to know I can support an ethical company that supports the same things I do.

And you don’t have to be a vegan to reap the benefits of plant-based protein powders.

That’s basically all there is to it.

Many gym nuts use whey protein powders to help them build lean muscle, but a lot of times they don’t know that there are plant-based options out there that are much better for them than whey protein.

Search the web for all the different types and flavors of vegan protein powders and get ready to make yourself even healthier when you go to the gym.
